Is anyone working today? I ask that every Columbus Day, why should this one be any different?
Happy Thanksgiving Day to our friends in Canada. What is the traditional menu? Turkey? We’re partial to cheese and green chile tamales. Pardon my ignorance. Maybe it’s goose? If you’re short one, my back pasture has been attracting them lately. Those and cranes, including whooping cranes. Actually a few chickens too. Not mine obviously since the bobcat got them back in late April. My neighbor’s rooster got some pullets and he’s been very proudly showing them around the neighborhood. You can tell they’re pullets even though they’re big enough to be mistaken for grown hens because they still make baby-chick peep peep noises. So cute.
The obvious conclusion being I’m not working per se. I’m listening to Pandora and slogging through a back log of a week’s email on my main accounts. I’m also answering the phones from the few callers. The day feels balanced and it’s so nice to have relaxed friendly conversations.
Now I’m off to forage for food. It’s 2:40PM and other than chocolate cake left over from yesterday, I haven’t even had breakfast. Then I may go look at carpet. Hope your day is a great one.

Up here in Canada it’s the same traditional menu of Turkey, etc…. but some green chile tamales would be great! Haven’t had a good tamale since I left Texas. :)
You have whoopers in your back yard!! You might want to let one of th eofficial whooper sites know. I don’t think they are tracking them in NM. Current estimated population is 574, with only three wild flocks and 167 in captive breeding programs.
Sarah, they make a big deal of counting the whooping cranes that winter here each year. One year when there were only 11 known in the wild, we had seven of them.
Jasonda: in these parts, some would argue you’ve never had a good tamale if you got it in Texas (I’m not one of them, lol).
OMG! You are priviledged indeed to have seen whooping cranes! They are extremely endangered (fewer than 500 left in the world). I was fortunate enough to see a pair here in Indiana about five years ago. Sadly, though, last year I read where one had been shot and killed here. Still, they are doing some really interesting stuff to try to bring the population back including teaching hatchlings to migrate by flying alongside them in a lightweight aircraft disguised as an adult crane :). You should try to get some pictures next time you see them. That may be all we have left in a few years.
We eat Turkey, or in my case, roast Pork. The main thing is, we eat, and eat. Boy do we eat.
Do you know what they call the very small eggs laid by a Pullet? A Pullet Suprise. Ya, that was corny.
And yes, I know I spelled Surprise wrong. But if I had spelled it right, it wouldn’t have worked.

First off, green chile anything is GREAT!!! I have some green chile tamales in Grant NM two years ago. Unbelievable.
Kathleen, why are you foraging for food? Go and kill off some of those birds and fry them up.
