I meant to post this yesterday but time got away from me.
Traci Akierman took my challenge to heart. If you recall, in this post I said it would be fun if someone sent in a pattern puzzle for me to solve (stump the chump) so this is what she sent (at right).
I have minimal details if you want to play along. All pieces are 2 per, none are on the fold. Piece 3 is interfacing. That is all the information I have.
Amended (thanks Alison): Piece #2 is not a cut out, it is its own piece. I laid it in there to reduce picture size.
I haven’t solved this puzzle yet (officially) so I’m not quite certain how to go about having you play along. I suppose you can wait to post links to your guesses once I arrive at a solution or I give up. I’ve been a bit buried work wise so I haven’t done much with this pattern beyond digitizing it and blowing it up 400%. My version of this file is slightly larger if you want to play with it or even, to compare it to the image Traci sent me.
My plan is to plot this tomorrow, cut it out of fabric and lay seam edges whichever way until I can figure out a solution I won’t be embarrassed to post. Of course, it’s always possible I won’t figure it out and this chump got stumped. Either way it will be fun.

Is Piece 2 also a cutout, of Piece 1, or is it just placed on Piece 1 so that the image fits in a square?
Piece 2 is its own piece, not a cut out. I placed it within piece 1 so I could make the image fit better. The file version I digitized (fwiw) shows these placed separately.

Piece number 3 is for interfacing. Pieces number 1 & 2 are the only pieces for the garment itself.
Spoiler alert: I know what this one is since I’ve made it many times. It’s my favorite knit shirt pattern. Originally it was a Vogue design by Issey Miyake. You can see it here bottom center: http://groehm.tripod.com/miyake/id13.html. It’s been copied by Sewing Workshop and sold as teh Teagarden Tee (apparently out of print).
I often wonder about the copyright because several sewing workshop patterns are absolutely identical (down to notch placement) to Vogue patterns designed by Issey Miyake. I guess I don’t understand copyright.

The square pc looks like it could be a bttm band or a cuff
Does anybody knows if there is a good app to sketch on IPad?
My thinking is along the line with Rita’s but more of a jacket with a tall collar wrap for the neck & long sleeves.
& I’m looking for a good sketch app too.

We already had one comment come in with the solution (as yet unpublished). I luckily did not see it because she wrote “spoiler alert” at the top. I’ve decided I just can’t read comments since I don’t think people are processing the intent here (I had started to read Rita’s but when I saw the first hint of construction ideas, stopped). I did read yours because I knew you knew.
I guess in the future we will have to do this differently. Namely, I will have to forward what I think is the solution to the person posing the challenge before I post about it on the blog.

OK, we have already had a spoiler. It is a dolman sleeved jacket with a shawl collar and a separate cuff for the sleeve. I still do not have the technological advancement to send in a picture. My programer husband tells me I am a late adapter. I tell him I am 69.
On the plus side, the comments so far are fairly obvious observations – or maybe I just think that because they match my first thoughts :) I won’t have time to play until over the weekend, so we’ll see if anybody’s realities match. I’m guessing people don’t think of this sort of out-loud speculation as hints, even though they actually are (just because you thought it doesn’t mean everyone else did).
For this sort of group work, you can’t just turn off comments, or you wouldn’t get Allison’s type of necessary clarification. While I like the idea of working ‘alongside’ you, Kathleen, you may indeed need to pre-work these challenges, as not everyone will get the same intent from the post. Pity :(
I’m having fun playing with this but for the life of me can’t figure out what to do with the cutout to the right of the “1” label.

The drawings reminds me of the Sewing Workshop’s Teagarden T. It comes to mind because I made the top last November.
I think it’s funny that Kathleen says post no hints and then that’s just what so many folks do!
