Sewing patterns for geeks

In support of open source software comes this serious yet tongue in cheek pattern project in support of Linux software. By now I think everyone’s familiar with the cute penguin used as Linux’s logo but did you know you could actually sew one up? Well now you can.

Welcome to the free-penguin project page. This project provides ‘executables’ that enable you to make your own soft-toy Linux® penguin. To put it straight: You can find sewing patterns and a community to sew your own soft toy or stuffed Linux® Tux penguin here. To help Google finding this, once again: You can find sewing patterns and community to sew your own soft toy or stuffed Linux® Tux penguin here. All downloads come under GPL (GNU General Public License).

In a similar vein, I found a link for patterns to make Star Trek uniforms. Unfortunately, the site won’t give me a dedicated URL for the pattern page so find them by typing “sewing patterns” in the search box.

Els Schroder was kind enough to send me a direct link for those Star Trek uniform patterns. Thanks Els.
