Sewing blogs

Gigi’s been blogging. When I stopped by today, I noticed she’s posted part one of how to sew shirt collars with a collar stand.

If you have a sewing blog, feel free to add it under comments.

Thank you, Kathleen! for posting Beverly Johnson’s bra-making blog. What a wonderful source of information for those who wish to understand this someitmes (no, correctly, often) tricky art and science. I had tried many times to use the software drafting program, Curves, by Wild Ginger, to make my own bras a few years ago and never got close to a good fit. I’m very tough to fit so perhaps with this added source of information I might revisit that journey and perhaps reach a solution. Many thanks again, and many thanks to Beverly Johnson!

  2. I’ve only just stumbled upon your blog, and I’m kicking myself for not finding it sooner! You’ve got some great articles here. I’m not in the fashion industry at the moment – I’m a theatre costumer/neophyte designer, which has its own unique brand of chaos – but I do blog (over at Curtain Going Up!).

I’m linking your blog, and bookmarking! Thanks for the great work, and do keep it up!

    Greetings.

This a new experience for me: in fact several:
    1. Does any one know or have comments on the Singer 2491. I am looking for a machine to do lots of alterations quickly on all types of materials especially denim?
    2. I have an idea for something new and want to know how to protect it and develop it as well. Any help or information would be great.

and finally I have no idea what I am doing – I am new to blogging and sewing.

    Thank you for your assistance,
    Gordon

At the upper left of your computer screen is an image of a book cover. Below that is a button that says “Buy now.” Click the button and buy the book. All your questions will be answered!

What a wonderful blog this is! And thanks for the opportunity to mention my website.

If you’d like to make your own Mexican Peasant dress, visit:
    http://www.themexicandress.com

This classic folk garment has been in style in Mexico since the 1600’s and here in the U.S since the 1960’s. My website is all about the history of this lovely summer sundress and offers an instruction booklet for making and embroidering your very own authentic Puebla dress!

Keep up the great work on this blog!

I’ve recently started a sewing blog, The Feed Dog

I’m a self taught seamstress; I started sewing in college, a bit late to the game. I owned and operated a maternity wear manufacturing business in the early 80’s, a small independent fabric store in the late 80’s, a children’s wear manufacturing business in the early 90’s and an online fabric store in the late 90’s. I had to work a real job for a few years to send my kids to college, now I finally have time to get back to my passion!

I want my site to be inspiring and informative. I have lots of ideas for it. Please check it out!
    Nancy

I’m looking to buy an industrial machine, any suggestions? Also, has anyone purchased the “Entrepreneur’s Guide to Sewn Product Manufacturing” book? If so, was it worth it?

  12. Christy says:

I always recommend that book! I think it’s so great that I gave my own copy to my best friend and then bought myself a new one.

Kathleen: I don’t think you’ll get the responses you’re looking for posting in this thread about sewing blogs. As far as machine advice is concerned, more can be found in Industrial sewing machines and Industrial machines pt. 2. There’s even more in the archives.

As far as book feedback, since this is the author’s blog, this isn’t exactly a non-partisan crowd. Also, it’s kind of awkward for everyone concerned, the comments on other topics are liberally sprinkled with endorsements. You could probably get more productive feedback if you described what it is you intend to do because it is not for everyone and no one wants to recommend something to you if that is not what you need because they have their own reputation to maintain. Fwiw, you can read buyer’s comments here. If you’d like to make your own assessment, you can read sample chapters free here. In any event, the book is unconditionally guaranteed. Return it for any reason or none at all for a full refund. A lot of people write me personally asking whether it would be helpful in their particular situation and I am very honest about whether it will or not for two reasons. One is a loss of credibility. The other is that I much prefer to lose a sale than to lose a sale after the fact because it includes the costs of shipping and processing the return.

I’m slowly returning to sewing after years away. I welcome all who would like to visit and offer suggestions or advice. I am finding great blogs and tutorials, which I share on my blog. My first two project are both from retro patterns. I hope you’ll stop by. http://www.changesblog.blogspot.com.

    Happy Sewing!

I stumbled upon your site a few months ago. If I remember, I was researching pressing irons, and my search brought me to your post, “The quality check nobody knows -markers & cutting.” I have an eclectic site, that’s been around since 2003, but I recently started a site dedicated to my love of items created with thread.
