Fix my pants

When I got in my car to go to work this morning, I found this note taped to the steering wheel:

and this note taped to the inside window by the driver’s side rear view mirror:

and then this note taped to the driver’s side front windshield:

and then this note taped to the rear view mirror:

and lastly, this note taped to the passenger’s side rear view mirror:

Is the boy hinting I’m supposed to use one of my machines to fix his pants? I henceforth resolve to lock my car and hide the keys.

Too funny. My mom is a wonderful seamstress AND a tightwad. When I was a teen we would go shopping, but never buy. I’d fall in love with something and she’d say, “I can make it for less than that.” Then I’d whine, “Yah, but you never will!” And she very rarely did.

Fix the poor boy’s pants before he depleats the world’s paper and tape supply!

Darn! A family member who actually remembers what is in the mending pile. That would totally ruin my system, which is to put it into the mending basket until it’s owner forgets all about it. Then it’s off to the trash. I just tossed out a huge bag of gingham napkins that my MIL wanted me to sew together into a tablecloth (why?)… And some of DH’s pants that I never liked anyway… Somebody once said that asking a sewer to mend would be like asking Michelangelo to paint your kitchen. Enough said.

    That’s great!!
Maybe you can post a bill for 50 cents or something on his computer/the fridge, etc when you’re done..

I knew I could count on Gigi for some moral support. Way back when, Dana Bontrager (Purrfection patterns) told me her DH (soon to be ex DH so he was really NSDH) nagged her to shorten his shorts so she sewed the legs shut and laughed herself sick watching him hopping around on one leg trying to get his foot through them.

I did fix one pair today. Another pair is a complete loss and not worth fixing and he lost the last pair so I’m off the hook…for now.

That’s hilarious. My husband hasn’t thought of that one yet, he’s been nagging me to resew a ripped seam — I’ve told him to lose weight first!

    LOL!!!

    This is just great!

My dad asked me if I was able to fix his pants if the zipper broke…

I am telling you, he was laying the bricks to the future mending road right there… *laughs*

    That’s hilarious!

Over the last 8 years, my DH has brought me two pairs of sleeping shorts and three pairs of his khaki shorts for repair.

Each time, I cut them apart, use the pieces I like, and he has four new pairs of shorts he bought because he couldn’t remember what happened to the other ones.

    Time does heal all tears.

My best friend gave me her sister’s skirt to mend and I had it for a year and they kept asking me about it. I had to admit that I “lost it” somewhere in my house. I even caught my friend looking for it herself! (She couldn’t)
It’s not like I wouldn’t be compensated either, she had a vintage pair of tails in trade but wouldn’t give it to me until I finished the skirt.
And: I have this fabulous wardrobe- in my head.

Well Kathleen, I don’t get “fix my pants” notes…he’s been trained well enough to know better…but if you walk around my house there are all kinds of love notes written in the dust!!

    I’d rather sew than clean/alter/mend!

The comments above remind me of the lady who made her husband swimming trunks with wash away basting thread…he hit the water, guess what?LOL Always wondered if that was true, or just another sewing urban legend!:))

Kathleen..the question that really springs to mind…why doesn’t “the boy” know how to fix his own pants?

The boy is developmentally disabled. He also has autism. I’m a little nervous with him on the machine but I think you make a good point, it’s something he could probably learn. Also, the particular repair needed was pretty complex; it needed a patch by the pocket (there’s a rivet right there) as the fabric was completely worn away, only the topstitching of the pocket and the pocket bagging was keeping it together.

I think I ended up with those gingham napkins. When my kids ask me to repair those jeans, I slap whatever fabric I have in the scrap pile on and stitch it down. So far the oldest has a flannel hippo face peaking out from behind a rear pocket and a few red areas on the other side. The youngest has green, orange, and blue bits poking out of her jeans in various areas. They don’t ask any more, heh heh. On the other hand, a few from the high school are showing up wanting the same thing on their jeans. What did I do!?

And there I am, hemming, fixing and altering 40 hours a week, not wanting to do it either, i rather sew too, but..it keeps the bills paid, and that is nice too

So, did you ever find the final strip of paper (with the cut bottom edge) or was that attached to the pair of pants in question?
