Another lovely Sunday

This is another off topic post for people to complain about. It’s been three weeks since I broke my ribs (I fell off my bike) and the only time it (really) hurts now is when I sneeze and I do appreciate all the well wishes. The problem with the injury lies is that I’m training to run a marathon this coming January 14th in Phoenix so it slows me down a tad. Speaking of slow, I ran in a half marathon today in Las Cruces (the Rio Grande Marathon). It was a lovely lovely day. Here’s me at the finish line.

My time was 2:36:01 (for the half marathon). Being old, slow and putzey, I was chagrined to discover afterward that if I hadn’t petted every dog I found enroute and hadn’t taken a ten minute break to chat with my coach at the halfway mark, I would have taken first place in my age category! Can you imagine? I was stunned. Well, let that be a lesson to me. Honestly, I’m not athletic, having taken up running rather late in life, how could I have imagined it was possible I’d place? There’s gotta be a lesson in there somewhere. How many of you are in the running and don’t even realize it? The playing field looks so big and intimidating but the facts say otherwise. Apply that lesson appropriately.

By the way, I’d really appreciate it if people could donate to sponsor me in the marathon I’m training for. I help you, you help me. I figure if every daily visitor donated one dollar, I’d have it covered with no problem. My marathon training thing is a fundraiser for leukemia research, all donations are tax deductible. The event I’m training for is the PF Chang marathon in Phoenix AZ on January 14, 2007. I will be posting the names of everyone who donates on my personal blog (and probably this site too) and I will remember who has chosen to support my goals as much as I have supported theirs. Thanks for your support!

I also have to thank my coach Kristine. The only problem with Kris is that she lies about mileage. She lies lies lies lies lies lies. She lies a lot. She runs you to the point you’re spitting up blood or coughing up your small intestine and she cheerfully chirps you’ve done the equivalent of half a block. I think they put her in charge of mileage today. I could have told them they could have done better because I don’t think she’s very good at math. She claims her GPS thingy calculates mileage accurately but as you can see below, her GPS is a little wonky.

When -after my repeated protests of faulty mensuration- I tactfully suggested she had poor math skills, she started explaining she had some kind of advanced math degree and what not, including a background in statistics and we all know what that means because there’s three kinds of lies. Lies, damn lies and statistics so I sure didn’t let her off the hook with that one. The statistics thing kind of cements it for me.

So, how was your weekend? It was lovely here. I’ll be in Albuquerque this coming Wednesday and Thursday so I have no idea what I’ll be posting about from there. If you happen to live there and are willing to buy lunch, shoot me an email ;). Please donate to sponsor me! It’s all tax deductible and I will forever sing your praises. What a great way to get in my sidebar!

Please make a donation to support my participation in Team In Training and help advance the Society’s mission. The way it works is I train and I’ll put your name in my sidebar on my personal page. If you’re an advertiser and you give me enough, I’ll put your name on this blog. It’d be great if you could support me in my goals as I work to support you in yours.

Once again, your off-topic topic is very on topic. Thanks for the vote of confidence in us. In light of all of all of your assistance, which I desperatly need and appreciate, you can count me in for a donation.

    (Borrowing Kathleen’s soapbox.)
No whiney “I don’t have the money”, people. I’m a stay at home mom on a fixed income and my kids wear used clothes like so many other’s do. My babies are cloth diapered and I make their food in the blender to save money. But hey, you think Kathleen doesn’t sacrifice for us? I still can’t figure out why she does it. To be real, we’re learning about a whole lot more than fashion design and new businesses. I guess this is “A fun little quiz part 4” Question #1 Have you figured out how you can help someone else, yet?

Oh, and if you need a more self serving motive, read, “Why people won’t help you.” on this blog. I certainly need somethig in my favor! I know I’m annoying and stupid, so I can’t afford to be cheap.

My tiny donation is on the way!

Honestly, I’ve been very depressed about how little support I get for the site. At this rate, I don’t know how much longer I can do it unless I start charging for it. I just feel used.

Anyway, I’m pleased to announce the following people have made donations today to support me in the marathon that benefits Leukemia research. I’ve put all their names on my personal site. They are:

    Victoria Kathrein $25
    Joyce Ireland $5.
    Peggy Leslie $25
    Linda Fitzgerald (Mamafitz) $25

    Previous donors are:
    Miracle Wanzo$100
    Kevin Meyer $50
    Christelle Lachapelle $25
    Anonymous $25
    Sarah Routley $25
    Gini Cornila $25

If you prefer to send a check, please make it out to The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society and put my name on the reference (bottom left) portion of the check. Send it to: Apparel Tech Svcs, 1149 W. Picacho Drive, Las Cruces NM 88005
Thanks everyone, I appreciate your support!

Go Kathleen! You look great Kathleen in that tight spandex! Jess and I would love to sponsor! Glad to hear the ribs are better. I can’t remember if I wished you well or not, I’m brain dead.

I’ve been getting myself in shape these days, cleaning up my diet and stepping up the exercise. You can watch my progress at http://frailx.livejournal.com/ , Don’t judge me on the last couple of days, it was Halloween weekend and their was a cauldron of candy sitting in front of me. Just thought I’d plug my diet blog. : )

Any chance I can donate through Paypal?
I’m sorry, I don’t think so. You’d think the payment agency would set something up. You can always send a check if you prefer (see my comment above for instructions).

    Jess Latham $25
    Christy Burton $50
    Mike Cerny $50

    Awesome job Kathleen.

I am very grateful for all the information and help you’ve offered. I have some huge updates to make to my blog about all the benefits of your book and your blog. Let’s just say for now that I’m about to increase my business by about 25% this year, adding organic and fair trade fabrics (from nearseanaturals.com), doing the Green festival (greenfestivals.org), putting a co-op ad in Mothering Mag, and just generally getting ready to explode. All because I took the leap and bought your book, it’s helped me focus, use my energy in wise ways, learn how the darned business works.
Look for our contribution to your Team in Training as soon as I transfer Paypal cash to the credit card.

My cousin did a Team in Training ride around Lake Tahoe earlier this year and MaMaMade was able to sponser him as well.

    Thanks Kathleen
