Have we ever done this one? I’m thinking not, although it is similar to another style I did a few years ago. This particular style -#22006- is a pattern I developed when I was still in my fella-fetching days. And I suppose, fella-fetching is as good a hint as you’re liable to get as to what this looks like.

I have long followed these puzzles and never cut and taped. I gave it a go and came out with a spiral dress, scooped at the front and v shaped at the back. I took some dodgy pictures of my effort, I might email those to you.
Also my first time doing one of these, but it went together satisfactorily as a pretty bias dress with seams on-grain. Only had a couple difficulties: the edges of 1 and 4 that joined didn’t seem to be quite the same length. Had some trouble taping at the waist between 2 and 3, but I’m sure that works much better in cloth than in card stock!
Kathleen: what grain did you cut the facing(s) on?

Callum; you’re correct, that seam is off. It has been corrected but I copied the wrong pattern version for this challenge (not on purpose either).
I never actually finished the dress way back when to wear it so it didn’t have finished neck or armholes. When I updated it for this post, I added an all in one facing for it and planned to stick it in wherever it would fit but then I decided to add a neckline ruffle. However, I have Martha sewing for me and figuring out sewing order isn’t her strong suit so I opted to use bias binding for the sample I will end up posting. Meaning, I opted for the process that took less supervision.
Even with the binding, there was a problem. I thought to create a tutorial on that but she doesn’t read the blog. Like a lot of sewing people, she wants to be shown. Problem is, I’d end up sewing the whole thing. I wouldn’t mind investing the time if we were going to produce these in quantity but unfortunately, it doesn’t make sense to pay her to learn one offs.
:::Sigh::: That is a drop dead gorgeous pattern and I would buy a copy of it in a instant. I realize that’s not much incentive, but I have always loved that style.
I once had a commercial pattern similar to yours but somehow lost it and have been looking for something similar ever since. Of course I can’t remember the pattern company, so all I do is randomly page thru pages of patterns, but a person has to have a dream. Apparently, one of mine is that I will one day find something similar.

Kathleen, this is a knock-out. Fella-fetching is a right! I have a grand-daughter it would look fabulous on. I’d buy it too.
I can sell it, it’s the only pattern I’ve put up that there has been any interest in. Grading it will be the problem. I’m partial to it being bias and the zipper closure is tucked neatly away. The original just went over the head but I figured the instructions for putting it on would be ignored. Without a zip, it’ll only go on one way.
Keep in mind that it is *shaped*. It looks uber tiny when on the hanger but it fulls out.
I love these pattern puzzles Kathleen – I usually avoid sewing bias dresses – its one of my last hurdles in sewing. But if the seam aren’t actually on the bias then this is one I’d definitely attempt making! Looking forward to seeing the sample:)

I had absolutely no idea where to start, but now seeing the finished dress, I think I at least should have tried, shame on me! It is VERY pretty. I will try the next puzzle.

The vionnet dress… this was the last post. The base pattern for the 24001 (vionnet) and the 22006 are the same.

I agree wholeheartedly with Alison and others who want this dress as a pattern. The world needs more bias cut garment patterns! I do not usually wear button up blouses, but Kathleen’s gusseted blouse is a classic and elegant design.
